Obituaries are a good source of information about the lives and careers of less published architects. U.S. from 1876; U.K. from 1843.

Biographical Dictionary of American Architect (Deceased) REFERENCE

"Withey's" is an invaluable source of information although occasionally and somewhat notoriously inaccurate. Many obscure architects, if deceased by 1952, are included. The bibliographical references are disappointing, often simply referring to the obituaries indexed in the Avery.

Includes tables showing the organization of the Irish Royal Works as well as bibliographical references and an index.
Biographical Dictionary of British Architects, 1660-1840 REFERENCE
NA996.C6 1995
This title purport to include "every" architect, regardless of national origin, who practiced in England, Scotland or Wales between 1600-1840. Architects domiciled in Ireland are not included. British born architects whose careers were spent entirely overseas are excluded as well. The dictionary includes many amateur architects.
Biographical Dictionary of Philadelphia Architects, 1700-1830 REFERENCE

Makes available information about builders and architects who worked in Philadelphia prior to 1930 but will not be found in other publications. Essays on giants of the profession are purposely kept short while relatively greater space is given to architects who are usually mentioned in passing if at all.

Well-known architects only. A good starting point for further research. Includes chronology of works and their locations, publications by and about, personal statements, and a biographical sketch.

Directory of British architects 1834-1900 REFERENCE

Makes available basic facts known about British architects of the Victorian Period and indicates in summary fashion where further information is available. No attempt is made to provide full biographical information or lists of works. The Directory gives a starting point for further research. Hence the title "directory" instead of "dictionary". The Directory features nearly 7,000 entries of British architects active between 1834 and 1900. It also include non-brits who were RIBA members regardless of their domicile or national origin.
