GNY-MLA News and Newsletter

December 2005

Dear GNYMLA members!

We had a fine turnout (and a sunny day!) for our meeting at the Brooklyn Public Library on November 1. In addition to a tour of the Central Library (including the Music Division), we were treated to an overview of plans for a new Visual and Performing Arts Library. Once again I'd like to thank Jack McCleland and Harold Stern of BPL, and Vice-Chair Peter Hirsch for coordinating such a wonderful meeting. In February 2006, Peter will oversee an gnymla meeting in Memphis, on chapter night.

At our brief business meeting on November 1, several locations were suggested for a spring 2006 meeting. The Board is grateful for these ideas and will determine what is feasible for the coming year. Please remember that your ideas for presentations and topics at these meetings are always welcome.

You don't have to be a member or even a librarian to attend a gnymla meeting. You can invite a colleague, faculty member, student or library user to come along with you to the meeting. Your guest will surely learn more about music librarianship, and what an organization like MLA has to offer. We are fortunate to live in a region that holds some of the finest music collections in the nation. The gnymla meetings offer the opportunity to explore these resources and to meet some great people.

Happy Holidays and all the best to you from your gnymla officers:

Gisele Schierhorst, Chair
Peter Hirsch, Vice-Chair
Mi-Hye Chyun, Secretary-Treasurer
