MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPTER CHAIR

Since a fair amount of bumf is appended to this Newsletter, my message will be brief.

Our next meeting-my last as chair-will be on Tuesday, June 1st, at 3:00 PM at the Pierpont Morgan Library. I will speak about the music collection here and show some treasures from it. I have asked several members to bring us up to date on changes underway at the New York Public Library, the Julliard School and other institutions. And of course, the election results will be announced.

The Morgan Library is located on Madison Ave. between E. 36th and E. 37th Streets. The nearest subway stops are at Park Ave. and 33rd St. and at Grand Central Terminal on the Lexington Ave. line and at 34th St. on the Sixth Ave. line. Uptown buses run on Madison Ave. and downtown on 5th Ave. If you are coming only for the meeting, please use the library entrance on Madison Ave. at 37th St.

I leave you with an admonition: Hilary Albert-who, like Erda, knows all but doesn't speak up very often-tells me that quite a few of you have never paid your dues and don't attend chapter meetings. Attendance at meetings is, of course, voluntary. But since it is unfair that our dues pay (for example) for Newsletter mailings to the deadbeats, my final ukase is: Pay up, or you're out. (And remember: Only ballots from paid-up members will be counted.) I'll leave it to my successor to put teeth to that threat; but remember, we know who you are ….

As part of the MLA Plan 2001, the Music Library Association Education Committee would like to know what opportunities for continuing education are of interest to local chapter members. To that end, you are asked to fill out a brief questionnaire. Please take a moment to do so, and return it to Hilary Albert (address above).
