GNY-MLA News and Newsletter Index

March, 2007

As you all have heard, we lost our beloved Suki Sommer. The officers are discussing possible ways the GNYMLA chapter can pay tribute to Suki and her legacy. Current ideas include making a donation to MLA in Suki's name and establishing a Suki Sommer Travel Grant for a member of the GNYMLA chapter to attend a national meeting (based upon guidelines similar to the MLA Freeman Travel Grant). Please share additional ideas you may have with me or any of the officers.

The minutes of the chapter business meeting in Newport can be found via the meetings link (February 2008) . We are working on our spring 2008 chapter meeting and will share details as soon as possible. The NEMLA and NYSO chapters are planning to invite our chapter to a joint meeting in Williams College for the fall 2008 meeting. No firm plans have been made, but we will keep you posted.

The MLA Education Outreach Program is working on establishing procedures for requesting and planning workshops in Sound Recordings Cataloging, Music Reference, and Music Collection Development/Acquisitions. The workshops are intended for audiences who do not have a full-time music librarian or music specialist. In our chapter, we currently have one certified Sound Recordings Cataloging workshop instructor and two Music Reference instructors. If you are interested in becoming an instructor or any other aspect of this program, please let me know. More details to come as they are available.

Sincerely,
Jennifer
GNYMLA, Chair
