GNY-MLA Chapter Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, November 1, 2005: Central Library, Brooklyn Public Library
The meeting began at 10:30 a.m. Opening remarks were provided by Jack McCleland, BPL's Manager of the Arts, Media, Music and Sports Division; Sharron Lahey, Acting Director of the Central Library; and Gisele Schierhorst, MLA-GNYC Chapter Chair.
Carol Linn, Coordinator of Special Projects, gave an overview of plans for a new Visual and Performing Arts Library, and fielded questions from chapter members. Harold Stern gave a presentation on the AMMS's current collections and services. A tour of the music division was provided by Louis Cigliano. Assistant Division Manager Kay Badalamenti concluded the morning with a tour of the Central Library.
After lunch in the staff cafeteria, G. Schierhorst called a chapter business meeting to order. In absence of the Secretary/Treasurer, she reported that the current budget of the Chapter is $2,900. Those members who did not receive the latest newsletter in paper copy were advised to contact a Board member to update their addresses and/or pay dues. The Chapter Chair is unable to attend the upcoming MLA annual meeting in February. However, Vice-Chair Peter Hirsch plans to attend and will oversee an MLA-GNYC meeting on chapter night.
Several locations were suggested for a spring 2006 meeting. These include the Carnegie Hall archive, the Pierpont Morgan Library, the Louis Armstrong House and Archives, BMI, Patelson's, SUNY Purchase and Syosset Public Library. The Board plans to confer on these ideas to determine what is feasible. Members were advised that ideas for presentations and topics for discussion at these meetings are welcome.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 2:45 p.m.
